Top Sheet (Cover Layer):
Material: Non-woven fabric, often made from polypropylene or polyethylene.
Function: This layer is in direct contact with the skin and is designed to be soft and comfortable. It allows fluid to pass through to the absorbent core while keeping the surface dry.
Absorbent Core:
Material: A combination of cellulose fibers (wood pulp) and superabsorbent polymers (SAP), such as sodium polyacrylate.
Function: The core is responsible for absorbing and retaining menstrual fluid. The cellulose fibers provide bulk and initial absorption, while the SAP can absorb and lock away large amounts of fluid.
Acquisition and Distribution Layer (ADL):
Material: Often made from a blend of synthetic fibers.
Function: This layer helps to quickly distribute the fluid throughout the absorbent core, preventing it from pooling in one area and ensuring even absorption.
Back Sheet (Barrier Layer):
Material: Polyethylene or polypropylene film, sometimes laminated with a non-woven fabric.
Function: This layer prevents fluid from leaking out of the pad. It is designed to be waterproof while still allowing some breathability to reduce heat and moisture buildup.
Wings (Optional):
Material: Same as the top sheet and back sheet, with additional adhesive.
Function: Wings wrap around the sides of the underwear to provide extra security and prevent side leakage.
Sanitary napkins are primarily used during menstruation to absorb menstrual blood and keep the user dry and comfortable.
After childbirth, women experience postpartum bleeding (lochia), which can last for several weeks. Sanitary napkins are used to manage this bleeding.
After surgeries such as hysterectomy, D&C or other gynecological procedures, sanitary napkins are used to manage post-surgical bleeding and discharge.
Remove the sanitary napkin from its packaging, taking care to keep the adhesive side clean.
Peel off the paper backing to expose the adhesive strips.
Place the pad sticky side down in the center of your underwear, fold the wings over the sides of the underwear and press firmly to secure.
